Like most of Cyprus, Polis and the nearby area have been invaded by British pensioners and their property buying ways. It is easy to find your dream property here, just pick up one of the catalogues freely available on street corners, or walk in one of the hundreds of estate agents scattered throughout the village. The picturesque marina at Latkis is surrounded by hastily built rows of villas, brimming with chain-smoking English people sitting in bars moaning about the number of Eastern Europeans moving in. That’s how Putney is going to be like when global warning really kicks in.
Besides the exorbitant prices, you can tell there’s a lot of money flowing in by the number of shiny new churches being built. They’re all quite toy-like.
Hiking at Hakamas
The best strategy to escape the Brits is to go walking on the hills, as age and their sedentary lifestyles keeps them well away from such pursuits. There are some nice hikes around Polis, well sign posted, not too hard, and with lovely views. You can even take picture of goats, if that’s what floats your boat.
