We arrived in Cyprus on a cheap charter flight on the 29th of December, and stayed for a week until the 5th of January.
Would I recommend it?
It was pleasant enough, we did some very nice hikes, the air was balmy and spring-like (but nippy at night), and it has much more to offer than similar places such as the Costa Del Sol. The problem is the cost - for the same money you could spend two weeks in Sri Lanka and have a very nice sunshine holiday. Due to the low season, the choice of hotels is limited, and those few that are open can name their price - and boy, do they know that. I also do not care to spend my holidays somewhere which feels like a part of Britain - I love living here, but when I go away I’d like to do just that, go away.
So, would I recommend holidaying in Cyprus in winter?
If you really fancy a place which is warmish and doesn’t feel too exotic, and are willing to rent a car, then you could do worse than visit Cyprus in winter. But I recommend doing some bargain hunting on the web first. Apparently hotels do offer cheap all-inclusive deals to make it worth their while keeping the heating on; if you find one of these, and perhaps a cheap last minute flight deal, it might be worth going.
As for myself, I enjoyed it, but don’t I think I’ll go back.
