Sometimes I wonder about the ICA’s film curators. You’d think if they choose a Japanese animation for a Saturday night show, it’s bound to be a good one, right? Not a soppy coming of age drama for teenagers. Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Not much to say about this. A pretty average movie, basically a remake of Groundhog Day for teenage girls (although the WikiPedia entry for the movie claims the story is based on a Japanese novel from the 60s, so if anything it’s Groundhog Day which is a remake of this).

The animation is average (I was left with the feeling the software package they used dictated the style of the animation, rather than the other way round), the story is soppy, the sound track and sound effects are nothing to shout home about. The kind of movie I’d enjoy if it came up unexpected on telly, but wouldn’t spend any money on it.
